Technical Claims Handler – Buildings & Construction

Salary: £27,000 – £35,000 (depending on experience)
Hours: Full-time, Permanent, 37.5 hours per week
Location: In-person

You’ll be the first point of contact for customers making a home insurance claim. With empathy, professionalism, and problem-solving skills, you’ll support them through what can often be a difficult time. Working closely with colleagues, clients, and trade networks, you’ll help restore properties back to homes again.

About You

You thrive on challenges, problem solving, and delivering excellent customer outcomes. Building rapport comes naturally, and you’re adaptable in every situation.

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

  • Previous experience in a technical claims handling role

  • Strong knowledge of building defect diagnosis, construction, HSE & CDM regulations

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills

  • High attention to detail and the ability to challenge and validate scopes

  • Cert CII or Cert CILA (advantageous but not essential)


What You’ll Be Doing

  • Managing a portfolio of commercial property claims within delegated authority

  • Validating and assessing insurers’ liability for claims up to £50K

  • Building accurate scopes for commercial building repairs, ensuring CDM compliance

  • Identifying fraud/recovery opportunities and delivering accurate declinature decisions

  • Collaborating with insurers, brokers, loss adjusters, suppliers, and customers

  • Providing clear written and verbal communication throughout the claim process

  • Coaching and mentoring junior team members

  • Managing complaints in line with client processes

  • Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement


Desirable Skills

  • Cert CII / Dip CII qualification

  • RICS or equivalent qualification

  • Experience with commercial property dilapidation and reinstatement projects

  • Familiarity with industry scoping systems (e.g. Xactware, Cotality)


Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday, 8am – 6pm (shift pattern)

  • Saturday mornings on a rota basis (9am – 1pm)

  • Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
