A UK Head of People has detailed that her organisation has created a directory to help the staff they have had to make redundant find new work elsewhere.

On LinkedIn, Tara Mansfield, Head of People at Monzo Bank, explained that the firm has sadly had to make some staff members redundant.

This news comes after Reuters reported last month that the bank was going to cull 120 jobs as the impact of COVID-19 continued to bite.

However, to showcase some of the ‘brilliant people’ that have worked for the bank and to give them an opportunity to secure work elsewhere, Monzo has created a talent directory specifically for this.

Mansfield wrote in her post: “We have had some absolutely brilliant people work at Monzo who we have sadly had to let go through our redundancy process. However, this is an opportunity for any Talent teams who are looking to hire passionate, high performing, empathetic people looking for their next challenge.

“Please check out https://talent.monzo.com/ if you have any roles open and looking for wonderful people.”

What does the platform look like?

The talent directory page, which is headlined: ‘Browse through some of the talented people who’ve worked at Monzo’, shares a list of people looking for work, their specialist job areas and details about whether they would be looking for remote or office-based opportunities.

In addition, the page includes clickable links to people’s CVs, LinkedIn profiles and websites for ease.

Mansfield’s LinkedIn post garnered a wealth of positive responses from HR leaders who thought it was a great initiative and method to support staff during such testing times.

Emma Hogan, an Employee Experience Consultant, replied to the LinkedIn thread writing: “What a truly inspired support process. It's initiatives like this that really demonstrate a people first approach when difficult decisions have to be made. Well done Monzo!”

From an employer branding perspective, Charelle Wigley, Head of Internal Communications at TikTok, praised the initiative, stating that it “shows how a company can follow through on its people promise even in really tough times/ circumstances”.

Jane Roques-Shaw, Global Executive Director, Culture and Engagement at WarnerMedia, wrote in a reply that it is a shame the firm has had to lose some of its workforce.

However, the culture and engagement lead said it was “impressive” that they had created a platform to showcase this talent and support them in finding a new role.

“This is such a great way to truly show support to people impacted by [COVID-19]. We know it will affect many in the months to come – but seeing an organisation being so creative and showing such positive support for its people is fantastic.

“An example of real values around putting people first,” wrote Helena Wallis, Chief Executive at Heart of England Mencap.

'Monzo is leading the initiative here'

Mandy Watson, Managing Director at Ambitions Personnel, exclusively told HR Grapevine that in today’s current climate, redundancies and placing staff on furlough are inevitable.

“However, it’s a great message for companies to be at the forefront of helping those who they had to make redundant.

"Monzo is leading the initiative here, with this online project showing the employees they have had to let go, front and centre and using their platform to position them in a light where recruiters can see just what their skill-sets are alongside any links to resumes and LinkedIn profiles.

Outplacement, as it is often termed within recruitment is not a new idea, but the way Monzo has grasped this as a concept and actively publicised it should be commended,” Watson added.

Perkbox’s ‘Talent Directory’

While this directory will be welcomed by many staff who are out of work, Monzo isn’t the only organisation to have launched a platform of this nature.

The HR provider Perkbox recently launched a ‘Perkbox Talent Directory’ to help any staff that had been made redundant find work.

The website explained: “If you are looking for dedicated and ambitious individuals who will go above and beyond, please take a look at the profiles below. We know that they will be a great addition to any organisation.”

In addition to hosting CVs and links to LinkedIn profiles, there is also a short box-out recommendation message from the employee’s former manager.
