Our client, a market-leading operator in sustainable resource recovery, is seeking a proactive and detail-driven SHEQ Assistant to join their Whittlesey site.

About the Company
Operating one of the UK’s leading incinerator bottom ash (IBA) treatment facilities, our client processes up to 250,000 tonnes annually, recovering valuable metals and producing high-quality aggregates for the construction industry. Their site combines state-of-the-art mechanical processing with a dedicated maintenance team and a strong safety-first culture.
The Role
Reporting directly to the SHEQ Lead, you will support in driving compliance across Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality functions. You will play a vital part in ensuring the site meets ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards, alongside regulatory and internal requirements.
This hands-on position will involve audits, inspections, training, and reporting, while promoting a culture of safe working practices and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:

Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly environmental audits (dust, odour, noise).

Support risk assessments, incident investigations, and SHEQ-related meetings.

Lead on-site safety initiatives, ensuring legal and company compliance.

Maintain and calibrate QC lab equipment, recording and reporting KPI data.

Deliver toolbox talks and training sessions to operational teams.

Liaise with operations and compliance teams, reporting findings professionally.
Candidate Profile
Essential:
-
NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent).

Strong knowledge of health & safety legislation.

IT proficient with strong Microsoft Office skills.

Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Confidence to challenge unsafe practices.

Ability to work independently and within a team.
Desirable:

SHEQ or H&S experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.

Full UK driving licence (due to limited public transport access).
