An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Automotive Technician to provide technical support services in the automotive workshop and to support the academic staff in the preparation of classroom activities
The successful applicant must have:
- Appropriate qualification relating to the automotive industry
- GCSEs (grade A-C) or equivalent in English and Maths
- The ability to work on automotive vehicles
- IT skills including Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/Outlook/Teams)
- Basic knowledge of Health and Safety and Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH)
- Excellent interpersonal / communication skills and good attention to detail and keep accurate records.
- Team player with a methodical and flexible approach to work
- The ability to multi task and work well under pressure
- Ability and willingness to undertake staff development
The roles main duties include:
- Preparing materials, apparatus and equipment for student practical work, training and lectures in workshops and classrooms. Please note this will involve lifting and handling.
- Assisting academic staff in accomplishing learning objectives.
- Maintaining accurate records and levels of tools, materials and consumables ordering replenishment stock as necessary.
- Coordinating curriculum area administrative paperwork.
- Organising and ensuring effective operation and security of classrooms and workshop area, with particular regard to hazardous and/or inflammable material and their safe storage.
- Preparing risk assessments and COSHH paperwork annually and to monitor and update risk assessments for the areas of responsibility.
- Ensuring all areas are clean, tidy and safe to ensure adequate care of health and safety and take immediate action (e.g. disconnection of power supply) if there is a reason to suppose a safety hazard exists and report the hazard immediately.
- Carrying out checks to ensure equipment is maintained in accordance with Health & Safety requirements and be responsible for reviewing and updating departmental risk assessments.
- To train and be a practising first aider within the department.
- Working flexibly and to a standard acceptable to the College. You will be expected to follow a work schedule that will outline your duties on a day-to-day, week by week basis.
- Operating in a safe manner at all times.
This role requires you to engage in regulatory activity in the FE sector. The full definition of regulatory activity is set out in the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act 2006 as amended by the Protection of Freedoms Act 2012. Regulated activity includes teaching, instructing, caring for or supervising children if the person is unsupervised.
Salary: This is a part year role with an actual salary of £18,627.61 full-time equivalent salary of up to £20,105.80 per annum.
Working Hours: 33 hours per week over 4 days, working one in four Fridays, 41 weeks per year.
